Irondale Cafe

The secret to Irondale Cafe’s success is simple: serve some of the best, traditional southern food, and don’t mess with the recipes too much. Some could describe this old-fashioned eatery as a ‘diner’, but Irondale Cafe is a whole lot more. The food at this restaurant is the stuff of legends, so much so, one of their dishes served as an inspiration for the book and subsequent movie “Fried Green Tomatoes” (of which they sell over 600 slices a day). Most of the recipes, based around fresh, local ingredients, are not very different from what they were when the cafe first opened in 1928. 1906 1st Ave N, Irondale, AL 35210 (205) 956-5258 www.irondalecafe.com
